Is your blog dead or alive? Dead blog means no automatic traffic; the blogger has to promote the site like crazy to get visitors. A dead blog will have no visitors the moment you stop promoting it. On the other hand, a live blog has sufficient amount of traffic without using promotional sites like FB, Twitter, etc.

How to make your blog become a live blog?
As a blogger, one must focus on growing organic search rankings for the targeted keywords. The next step is to turn every site visitor into a loyal reader and boost recurring traffic. In order to improve organic traffic you need to know the target keywords for your site, build authority backlinks and set up a campaign to capture email of every site visitor. This is not as easy as writing a viral post that people share multiple times and convert the resulting site visitors into loyal subscribers. Getting people to visit the blog for the first time is great but in order to be successful, you must aim to get large number of dedicated readers loyal to your blog. You need to find out methods to drive traffic to your blog reliably and recurrently.

Methods to drive traffic to your blog
1. Keywords research before writing a post
Before writing any post, you need to research the keywords appropriate for the post. You need to know about the topics you audience searches regularly and posts that will bring in huge amount of visitors to your blog if ranked well. Hang out at places where your target audience resides and look out for questions they are asking. This helps you to provide solutions to their queries in a better way and build rapport. Create content while answering the queries and make your content stand out from others.
Quick Tip: Order keywords by the number of words. This will help you identify long tail keywords with less competition and help you get more traffic that is organic to your blog.

2. Write cornerstone content
What is the main theme of your blog? What are the blog topics that your blog must have? For example, if your blog is about blogging tips then you should cover the topics like how to build a blog, how to write content, etc. Such posts will be the cornerstone content of your blog. Cornerstone content needs to be exhaustive i.e. covering every aspect of the topic, useful for your readers, long and optimized for the targeted keywords. Cornerstone content is the foundation around which everything else is written and organized. Without having a good cornerstone content, there is no point in driving traffic to a blog, as the readers will not find a suitable reason to stay on the blog for a long time. In addition, it may happen that they may not want to come back again to your blog because of lack of information provided on your blog. There may be an occasional surge in your traffic stats but very few readers will become loyal to your blog. It is necessary to follow deep linking strategy as it increases the possibility that readers will stay on your blog for longer duration and find answers to the questions.

In our next post, we will discuss about link building and its techniques.
